European Parliament Divests from Petrochina
17 March - Great news for European divestment today as the European Parliament announces that it will be divesting from Petrochina. The move was pushed by Glenys Kinnock, Labour MEP for Wales, and signals a serious commitment to addressing the problems in Darfur on the part of the European Parliament. Sudan Divestment UK applauds the move, and hopes that similarly decisive action will be taken on the part of other institutions across Europe.

London (7 December, 2007) The government of Japan is considering a ban on importing crude oil from Sudan following pressure from UK parliamentarians and human rights groups concerned about the link between the sale of oil and the genocidal policies of the Sudanese government in Khartoum.

Press release: Company tied to Sudanese genocide to present at London summit
London (2 December, 2007) Human rights groups are angered at news that Sudapet, the Sudanese national oil company, is seeking investment at a National Oil Companies summit being held at a central London hotel on December 4th – 5th. The company is owned and controlled by the Government of Sudan, a regime which both the US and the UN have condemned for its role in perpetrating genocide in Darfur.
